Autumn Birthday featuring Outrageous Owls

Hi all and happy Thursday!  It's Tara and today I am sharing a birthday card that is perfect for all the fall babies out there!  I used one of my all time favorite Mint Owl Studio stamp sets - Outrageous Owls!  And, of course, some Antique Gold heat embossing on kraft card stock!  That is rapidly becoming my signature move of the season.

To create a patterned background I used the adorable little acorn in the stamp set to create my own patterned paper for the background using heat embossing. I die cut a circle for a shaker window and used some adorable autumn patterned paper from Echo Park for the background.  The color scheme from that patterned paper is what I used as my inspiration to color my cute little owl.

I used Prismacolors on kraft card stock to color him in and then fussy cut him out.  Once my shaker was filled with amazing sequins  that matched my theme I was ready to pop the little owl and sentiment banner up with some foam tape.  I added some sequins to the outside and this card was done!

Thank you so much for joining me today to see how you can create a birthday card to coordinate with the season!  See you again soon!  Bye!

A Latte Birthday Wishes...

Hello, hello!  Happy middle of the week!  It is Lisa here with you today and I have a card that I've created based on the latest Fall Coffee Lovers Blog Hop.  Did you know that Mint Owl Studio is one of the Super Sponsors for this hop?!  LOVE it!  Also there is a special code you can use to get 20% off your total purchase right now, just enter COFFEE when checking out!  Now here is the watercolor postcard I've created with the Coffee Craze Stamp set...

When I think of seasonal projects I think of colors and while I don't have a huge selection of Magical Powders I did pull out my blue, orange and green colors that jumped out as fall to me.  The magical powders are fun to work with in various ways and I chose a very artsy and loose technique by simply sprinkling the powders in the general areas that I wanted them to be after my images were embossed. I then spritzed with water and let the "magic" happen!  I love the way you get a mix of colors from each powder by using this technique, but be aware that this technique is not something you have a lot of control over and sometimes things can get a bit messy.  I love the results and think its so fun to watch the colors change and swirl together.

Thanks so much for stopping by and Happy Crafting!

Dear Santa

Happy Tuesday, everyone! It's Cassie back with another card. Today's card came to me as I was making another card and I ran with it. I decided to take the sentiments from the new Dear Santa set and make them into a funny little holiday card for someone who-*gasp*-might be on the naughty list!

Let's take a look at the card!

This card was pretty darn simple to make, and it is another non-tradition holiday color combo like I've been so into lately. I started by stamping the pine branch from the Trim the Tree all over a piece of Bristol Smooth cardstock. Then I took my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers and colored in the branches and background. I went simple with the colors so that it wasn't too busy. When the panel was dry I splatter black and white paint over it-a look I've been loving lately!

Then I die cut some paper to write my letters. You can hardly tell in the photos due to the lighting, but I did use a T-ruler to give the paper blue horizontal lines and a pink vertical line on the left side. Then I took the sentiments from the Dear Santa set and stamped the "Dear Santa" at the top of each letter. I did cut the sentiment apart, as the "is it too late to be good?" was attached, but you don't have to if that makes you cringe. You can just mask off the part that you don't want to stamp. Part of the reason I did cut mine apart was that I wanted the words to fit nicely in the blue lines I had drawn in, but again-you don't have to do that. I continued by stamping the rest of the sentiments. I wanted it to look as though someone had started a couple letters and finally settled on the last one, so I crossed out the first two letters contents with my ruler. I popped the letters up with some foam tape and added a couple of white enamel dots, and that's it for this card!

Thank you so much for joining me today! Do you think you'll make the nice list this year?! Or do you know anyone who would have to write a couple letters like this? I know I do! :) I hope you liked the card. Have a great week, and I'll see you again soon with another card!

Merry Christmas

Hello everyone,

I'm back with another Christmas card for you using the Trim the Tree stamp set.  And did you know we now have coordinating dies as well?

I started out with a pice of watercolour paper and I added a couple of different blues to the card with my watercolour paints.  I did this in layers and heat set each layer before adding more colour.  I happen to love the harsher lines this technique gives.

I then stamped the ornaments in Versamark and heat embossed it with silver embossing powder.  I then took my Versamark pen and added the lines that the ornaments are hanging from and heat embossed them again along with the sentiment.

I then added a few dots using the Nuvo drops in glitter and let that dry before adhering the panel onto a card base.  I always manage to stick my finger in these dots thinking they are dry enough, and they never are.  But this time I put the card up so I wouldn't keep checking on them.  ;)

Thanks for stopping by, see you again soon!

VIDEO Using Glitter with Your Stencils

Hi there and happy Thursday!  I'm Tara and I am here with a fabulously sparkly way to use your stencils!  I have been dying to use the Christmas Quilt Stencil from the new September Mint Owl Studio release and decided it was perfect to try out an idea I've had brewing in my mind!

To start, I used Post-It tape to mask off the back of my card base and then place my stencil over the top of the front of the card.  I then used my palette knife to apply Ranger Multi Medium Matte over the top of the stencil just like I would apply embossing paste.  After carefully peeling the stencil away to reveal the gorgeous pattern left behind I poured generous amounts of glitter right over the top.  After tapping off the excess I was left with the beautiful, intricate stencil pattern in shiny, sparkly glitter!

This worked so well I had to test to see if it was a fluke so I made a second card using some pretty holiday red glitter and it worked like a charm!  I cannot wait to use this technique to create all kinds of backgrounds!  I feel like I finally found something to do with all that glitter I've been hoarding all these years!

I finished the cards up with some sentiments from the Banner Sentiments 2 stamp set heat embossed on the Mini Banner die cuts, all from Mint Owl Studio!  A few Pretty Pink Posh sequins and these super sparkly cards are done!

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I can't wait to see what you all create with this fun and easy technique!  See you next time!  Bye!

Deck the Halls CAS Style

Hello!  It is Lisa Lahiff here with you today and I have a CAS Christmas card to share with all of you today using the new Trim the Tree Stamp Set...

To create this card I started with a panel that I stamped the tree branch image onto repeatedly.  I then sprayed this panel with two different green mists and one pearl mist.  I then set this to the side to dry. I stamped, colored and cut the ornament images.  Once everything was dry I layered the images up onto kraft card stock.  I decided to emboss the sentiment in gold in the lower right corner and finished the card off with gold washi and a twine bow.

We can't wait to see what you create with the new sets, and remember there is a Instagram Challenge you can take part in each month too!

Happy Crafting!

Let It Snow

Good morning Mint Owl friends! It's Cassie here, with another card to kick us all into holiday crafting gear. Today I'm combining a new set with an old set and loving the results. I started by pulling out my Banner Sentiments 2 stamp set to use with my Mini Banner Die set. I love that the sentiments that can be used with these dies keeps growing!

To start out I die cut one of each of the banners. I love the size of these because they fit so well across a card panel. I also pulled out my Dear Santa stamp set because it has a few cute little images that fit well in the banners. I stamped each of the images on a banner with VersaMark and then used white embossing powder and heat set them. To make the embossed images pop I added color to the banners with my ink blending tool and Distress Inks. I've been on a non-traditional Christmas color kick so I picked Lucky Clover, Blueprint Sketch, Cracked Pistachio and Peacock Feathers.
For the background I also used Distress Inks to create a snowy night. I started by die cutting a stitched rectangle out of some Bristol Smooth cardstock. Then I pulled the two different size dots from the Trim The Tree set. Using the VersaMark and white embossing powder I stamped the dots all over the panel to make snow. Then I splattered the panel with water to make it look like smaller snow flakes. I'm from Minnesota so trust me-I'm an expert on snowfall! :) I used Broken China and Blueprint Sketch again to make the sky.

Finally I poked holes in the banners and strung some aqua cord through. I taped it on the back and attached it to my card base. And now I've got another card to send for the holiday season! How many cards do you have ready for the winter? Thanks so much for joining me today, and I'll see you again soon with another card!

A Child is Born

Hello everyone!

I'm back with another card with this months release which is available today in the shop

For my card I used the "Away in a Manger" stamp set along with the "Christmas Quilt" stencil.  I used what I'm calling the reverse stencil technique with I did with my previous card.  This was the second stamping to use up the ink left of the stencil. I then took some watercolour paints and coloured in the background.

I used a circle from my stash along with a banner die cut from black card stock. I heat embossed the sentiment with white embossing powder and adhered it to the front panel. I then coloured and fussy cut Baby Jesus and popped it up with foam tape.  To finish off the card I added some Sparkle pen to the watercolour panel but you can't see it in these pictures.

We hope you'll head over to the shop to treat yourself with a few, or the entire release for this month!

Thanks for stopping by, see you again soon.

INTRODUCTION: Dear Santa

Hi all and happy Release Week Thursday!!  I'm Tara and today I have the please of introducing the absolutely amazing Dear Santa stamp set!  I mean, come on with the cuteness!!  The roly-poly Santa and reindeer are so incredibly fun and those sentiments just push this set over the top into too much awesome territory!

For my project I wanted to feature the fabulous and original sentiments in this set.  I really like the "Dear Santa" sentiment and chose to make it the star of the show.  Using the sweet Santa image I created my own patterned paper - I was envisioning wrapping paper as though the whole card were wrapped up like a present!  I love that Santa is on the card for the sentiment to reference but the sentiment is really the focal point.

I used some green glitter embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment on some vellum so that the background could peek through.  I love using glitter embossing powder during the holidays!  It just add a little extra something special!  The cute scene-building images were perfect for making my sentiment stand out a bit.

Finally, I used yet another adorable sentiment on the inside of the card and heat embossed it with red glittery embossing powder!  I'm telling you guys, the sparkly sentiments just scream holidays!!  Add a little holly and this card is good to go!

Thank you so much for joining me today and I hope you are having a fabulous time enjoying the new release this week!  See you soon!  Bye!

INTRODUCTION: Away In A Manger

Hello and eeekkk!!!!  Isn't it so fun to see new stamps being released?!  It's Lisa Lahiff here with you today, and I just LOVE this super cute set called Away in A Manger that I get to show off today!  From the sentiment to the super cute images, how could you not need this in your Christmas making arsenal?  And to really enable you take a look at this adorable card I was able to create with it...

To create this card I started by masking off my background and using various distress inks to create the shine for the star and the night scene around it.  I also did a mix of Masking fluid and white color misting for the white stars in the background.  I then stamped all of my characters and colored them in with various Copic Markers.  After I cut everything out I added them to my "sand" adhering the people with foam adhesive for dimension and the rest of Tombow Mono-liquid Glue.

Make sure you stop back by tomorrow to see the next stamp set reveal!
